Wallets & Security: Keys, Seed Phrases, and Threat Models
A wallet manages private keys and helps you prepare and sign transactions. The most critical secret is the seed phrase (typically 12–24 words). Anyone with that phrase can restore and control your funds.
Best practices
- Use a reputable hardware wallet for meaningful amounts.
- Keep seed phrases offline; write them on paper or metal and store in separate secure locations.
- Test backups by restoring to a fresh device with a tiny amount.
- Segment funds between everyday (hot) and long-term (cold) storage.
Common attacks
Phishing sites, fake wallet apps, clipboard malware, and malicious contract prompts are common. Always verify URLs, review transaction details on your hardware device, and never share your seed phrase with anyone.
